TILTON — David George Winner, 66, passed away peacefully, cradled in the loving arms of his wife and children, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his residence at 86 Lancaster Hill Road in Tilton after surrendering to a long-term illness.

 

David was born in Framingham, MA., on June 28, 1943, the son of Warren and Dorothy (Howard) Winner. He grew up in Holliston and Natick, Mass. and graduated from Natick High School in 1961 where he ran track and played halfback for the football team.

 

David pursued his education as a mechanical engineer at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bacuna SS-319 as a radioman and obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Third Class. David then worked at Atkins and Merrill for a number of years, before becoming the owner and operator of The Village Deli in West Acton, Mass. In 1986, he moved to Belmont, N.H. where he owned and operated The Lakeport Deli and in 1993 he owned and operator Credit Care New England. He also worked at the Citizen in Laconia until his retirement in 2001.

 

David had a deep love of life. His hobbies included laughing, spending time with family, fishing, hunting, boating, tracking hurricanes, model airplanes, the ocean, photography and music.

 

David leaves his wife, Gay Burby Winner, of Tilton; his children, Matthew Winner of Tilton, Lisa Winner of Boston, Mass., Shawnda Burby of Laconia, and Robbie Burby of Caribou, Maine. He also leaves his grandchildren, Sage Winner of West Topsham, Vt., Mackenzie Hey, Emma Burby and Joey Burby all of Caribou, Maine; his sister, Suzanne Jarrie, and her husband, Donald, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his brother, Michael Winner, and his life partner, Janet Conrad, of Hooksett; long, long, long time family friend, Jim Smith, of Natick, Mass; his mother-in-law, Norma Tuttle, of Largo, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Mark Secore, and family of Seabring, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; his bird, Cookie, as well as the love of his life, his dog, Muffin. He was predeceased by his parents. David would like to give a very special thanks to Fluffy for the most delicious roast beef subs, ever.

 

Special thanks to Hospices services of Laconia, the staff at the medical practices of Dr. Eliza Deery and Dr. Mark Aronson in Laconia, and all other friends who have supported both him and his family on his long journey home. Calling hours were held on Nov. 14, 2009 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, Laconia.
